It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Fumi Kitahara, a trailblazing publicist in the animation industry and a cherished chamption of the Collision Awards.
Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, Fumi was instrumental in shaping the public relations landscape for animation. She collaborated with renowned studios such as DreamWorks, Disney, Aardman, Laika, and Netflix, contributing to the success of iconic films including Shrek, Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, How to Train Your Dragon, and Coraline. Her expertise and dedication were pivotal in bringing these stories to global audiences.
Beyond her professional achievements, Fumi lent her visionary spirit to help us foster a vibrant community at the Collision Awards where creativity and technology converge. Her commitment to nurturing talent and innovation has left an indelible mark on our industry. Fumi is survived by her husband, director and animator Simon Otto, and their son, Max. Her legacy of passion, kindness, and unwavering support continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we mourn the loss of a remarkable leader and friend, we also celebrate Fumi Kitahara’s enduring contributions to animation and the Collision community.
