FAQ

Here you’ll find answers to common questions about the Collision Awards. If you don’t find what you’re looking for here, please email us at annalee@collisionawards.com.

What are the Collision Awards?

The Collision Awards is the first global and holistic platform solely dedicated to honoring excellence in Animation and Motion Design in all its forms.

Launching in partnership with various industry leaders, our mission is to establish a holistic platform that celebrates the unique and incomparable creativity and technical talent in Animation and Motion Design across Film, Television, Commercials, Experiential, Games & XR, or Marketing & Communications. We recognize how an entire industry and community can benefit when the best work and talent is credibly recognized by its community and beyond.

Knowing how often talent working behind the scenes goes unrecognized, we are making fair crediting a priority as well as supporting and elevating the fluid movement of animation and motion design talent across fields. The Collision Awards will unite and celebrate a community of unsung heroes whose time in the spotlight is long overdue. Whether you created an animated explainer video, an indie game or short form film, your work has a place here.

When does work need to have been made to be eligible?

The Collision Awards accepts work created within two years of the season.  Work produced between January 1, 2022 and the entry deadline is eligible.

How did you decide the award categories?

The Collision Award categories were created after extensive conversations over several months with leaders across animation and motion design from across the globe, from small production companies to large studios.

Which category should I enter?

The Collision Awards offers categories across Film, Television, Commercials, Games & XR, Experiential and Marketing & Communications. Please enter the category or categories that you feel are most appropriate for your piece. Often there is more than one category that fits each entry and many pieces are entered into more than one category. You can see all categories here.

Can I enter more than one category?

Yes, you can enter your work into as many categories as you deem appropriate, and it will be evaluated separately for each instance and category it is entered. It is not uncommon for exceptional work to be honored in more than one category regardless of the area of focus.

How do you pick the judges for your competitions?

The Collision Award Jury is composed of leading experts across animation and motion design. They also were curated for their diversity of experience across Film, Television, Advertising Games and more.

Can you explain how work is judged?

Please refer to the Judging  Process and Judging Criteria on our site.

Is it possible to receive the judges rating and comments for my work?

Unfortunately due to the volume of entries, jurors are unable to provide individual feedback.

How many entrants will win the Collision Awards?

All work will be assessed via the lens of specific criteria that places creativity and execution at its core. A key mission of the Collision Awards is to provide an equal playing field for all forms of work from across production companies, studios, individuals, small and big teams and all levels of budget. To that end, there may be multiple winners per category as each piece of work will be reviewed against its own execution as opposed to being judged against others.

How are the winners chosen?

Members of the Collision Award Jury independently inspect the entries submitted during the Call for Entries. Entries are judged on their own merits based on a standard of excellence for each category as determined by the Jury as well as industry leaders.

Each entry is evaluated by multiple Jury members who provide scores based on the appropriate criteria.  The top scoring entries are determined to be Winners. A category may have multiple Winners, or none at all, depending on relevant scoring.

I’m submitting in a Games category and the game is behind a paywall, how can the judges work around this?

For projects that require payment, we recommend providing the judges with a guest login or access codes. For example, if your game is available on Steam, we recommend providing Steam codes for the judges to play the game. Alternatively, you can set up and submit a case study page with a demo video of the game play.

What is the Collision Awards stance on Generative AI and the usage of copyrighted and non-consented work?

As technology advances, the methods in which animation and art is created continue to evolve. We understand that there are legal and ethical concerns around Generative AI and the usage of copyrighted and non-consented work to train these models.

At the Collision Awards, we do not support the usage of non-consented copyrighted work of any kind. Entries that include non-consented and/or copyrighted work, or entries created, in whole or in part, by image generation tools trained on non-consented data sets will be disqualified.

I just graduated, am I still eligible to submit under the Student categories?

Yes! You are still eligible to submit under the Student categories for 1 year post grad.

How can I take advantage of the discounted categories?

The discounted categories are spread out among the areas we honor. They are marked with a “#” symbol on our category list and are open to all who feel their work fits with the description.

What is the scholarship program?

Our mission is to honor excellent work from across the community and supporting a vibrant and diverse industry. If you are unable to financially access the entry free, the Collision Awards offer a limited number of scholarships to provide free entry.
